Ao contrário do que é corrente afirmar-se, a crise não fará diminuir o trabalho de arquitectura em Portugal.

Sem aprofundar muito o tema é fácil de perceber que as dificuldades financeiras levarão a uma alteração drástica na paisagem construída num curto espaço de tempo – diminuição de construção nova, aumento exponencial de ruínas e edifícios abandonados. Por outro lado, já se assiste a uma significativa recomposição da estrutura de propriedade ao nível da casa própria. Se é certo que o mercado imobiliário estagnou, isso não quer dizer que as famílias não se estejam a movimentar mais do que nunca. Mais, é no grupo maioritário das famílias com menos recursos e tendencialmente em crescimento, que encontraremos uma maior mobilidade. Estando o mercado da habitação e o território em ebulição, ainda que não pelos melhores motivos, é pouco avisado declarar-se que não há trabalho de arquitectura em Portugal. O problema não é a falta de trabalho, mas como pagar o trabalho de um profissional? Este é o nosso ponto de partida. Como podemos trabalhar com quem precisa de arquitectura e não tem verba para contratar profissionais habilitados?

O ateliermob foi seleccionado para apresentar este projecto na 7ª Edição do Festival de Arquitectura EME3 em Barcelona (28/06 - 01/07) na secção "Bottom-up". Aqui podem ser consultados os resultados do processo de selecção.

Contrary to popular belief, the Financial Crisis does not necessarily mean the decrease of architectural work.

This is particular meaningful in countries under stress such as Greece, Ireland or Portugal, where we are developing this program. Without delving into the theme it is easy to predict that – in Portugal – in a short period of time, the financial struggle will lead to a drastic change in the built environment, through reduction of new construction and the ever increasing number of ruins and abandoned buildings. On the other hand, we are already witnessing a significant reorganization of the ownership structure, in regards home-owning. We know that the housing market has stalled but that doesn't mean that families are not moving more than ever. And it's in this majority group of families, with fewer resources and ever growing, that we find greater mobility. With the housing market and the territory in ebullition, though not for the best reasons, it is careless to declare that there's no architectural work in Portugal. The problem is not the lack of work, but the means to pay for the work of a qualified professional. And this must be our starting point. Architects might play a significant role as a tool, helping people in hard times. How can architects work with people that need architecture services, but do not have (nor will have in the near future) money to pay for them? That's the question that should be posted.
